# How corrections are reviewed and applied

Wildlife information changes, names are revised and mistakes can happen. Correction requests are assessed against the strongest available evidence rather than accepted or rejected by popularity.

## How to report a possible error

Email hello@uglyanimals.net with the page URL, the exact statement or image in question and the source that supports your concern. A precise report can be checked much faster than a general disagreement.

Useful reports include changed conservation assessments, revised taxonomy, incorrect image identification, broken citations and wording that overstates uncertain research.

## How a correction is evaluated

The existing source, the proposed source and the scope of the claim are compared. Newer is not automatically better if it is less authoritative or refers to a different species or population.

Minor spelling and link repairs may be made directly. A substantive factual correction should also be reflected in any related summary, label or explanation on the site.

## What does not count as a correction?

A difference in taste, tone or preferred common name is not necessarily a factual error. Taxonomic disagreements may require the page to present both treatments rather than choose one without context.

Publication dates are not changed simply to make a page look new. Meaningful revisions should reflect real changes to the document.
