Images on Ugly Animals are published under licenses, permissions or usage rights held for the site. Credit lines are displayed where a license or agreement requires them.
An image appearing on the site does not place it in the public domain or grant permission for reuse. Rights remain with the relevant copyright holder unless the image's license states otherwise.
A photograph may not prove the species
Closely related animals can look similar, and online captions are frequently copied without a specimen record. Pages avoid assigning a precise scientific name when the available image evidence cannot support it.
The blobfish guide is deliberately explicit about this problem. Photographs can illustrate body condition or family resemblance without proving that every image shows Psychrolutes marcidus.
Report a rights or credit concern
Send the page URL, image description and the basis of your claim to [email protected]. Include a reliable way to verify ownership or representation when requesting a credit correction or removal.
Credible rights concerns are reviewed promptly. Removal, replacement or corrected attribution may be appropriate while a question is investigated.
